K-1st Dance Classes

Two big things: length and depth. K–1st classes are typically 45 to 60 minutes long instead of 30, and the curriculum focuses more on building real technique — proper form, longer combinations, and choreography that your dancer will remember from week to week. It's still absolutely fun, but there's a clearer sense of "we're learning to dance" rather than "we're exploring what dance is."

Great question — the answer depends on your child. Some kids love the familiarity of Dance Exploration and thrive continuing another year. Others are ready for the challenge of Triple Threat or Hip Hop & Tumble. If you're not sure, our front desk team is happy to help you decide, and we're comfortable with families switching mid-year if the fit isn't right.

Triple Threat is our most popular K–1st class — it gives your dancer a taste of three styles in one class and builds broad foundations. Dance Exploration is best for kids who want a familiar, gentler format. Hip Hop & Tumble is ideal for the high-energy child who loves movement variety. When in doubt, Triple Threat is a safe, well-rounded choice.

Not at all. K–1st is a great starting point for children brand-new to dance. Our instructors are experienced at welcoming beginners alongside dancers who've been with us since preschool — everyone learns at their own pace.

Yes — many K–1st dancers take two or even three classes per week. Common combinations include Triple Threat plus a style focus (like Hip Hop & Tumble), or Dance Exploration plus a technique class. Multi-class family discounts apply.

Attire depends on the class. 

Triple Threat and Dance Exploration: leotard, tights or leggings, ballet shoes, and tap shoes. 

Hip Hop & Tumble: athletic wear (leotard or fitted top with shorts/leggings), and gym shoes with non-marking soles. 

Hair pulled back for all classes.

Yes! K–1st students perform in our winter Holiday Show and present two routines in the end-of-year recital at Neuqua Valley High School. At this age, dancers really start to feel the pride and excitement of being on stage — many parents say the recital becomes their favorite family event of the year.

Once your child is in 2nd or 3rd grade, they'll move into our 1st–3rd Grade program — which opens up single-style classes (Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop) alongside continued combo options. This is where many dancers start identifying their favorite style and considering competitive pathways down the road.
