From your child's first shuffle to advanced rhythmic combinations — our tap program builds technique, musicality, and confidence in every dancer. Ages 3 to adult.
Tap dance is one of America's original art forms, rooted in African American cultural history and built on the intersection of music, rhythm, and movement. At Steps Dance Center, our tap program teaches students not just the steps — but the story, the sound, and the soul behind every combination.
Our faculty bring real professional stage experience into every class, and our six Harlequin sprung studios are purpose-built for the demands of tap training — giving dancers the right surface and sound to truly develop their craft.
Ages 3 – 5 · 30 or 45 min
An introduction to tap for the youngest dancers. Students learn basic sounds — shuffles, flaps, and stamps — through games, music, and imaginative movement. No experience needed.
Ages 6 – 9 · 45 or 60 min
Students build on foundational sounds and begin learning combinations across the floor. Focus on rhythm patterns, timing, and basic choreography performed at the annual recital.
Ages 9 – 14 · 60 min
Intermediate tappers develop cleaner sounds, faster combinations, and stronger musicality. Students at this level begin exploring improvisation and more complex rhythmic structures.
Ages 12+ · 60 or 90 min
Advanced tap students work on intricate rhythmic combinations, improvisation, and performance-ready choreography. This level is the pathway to competitive company auditions.
18+ · 60 min
Never too late to start — or to come back. Our adult tap class welcomes complete beginners and returning dancers alike. Expect a fun, non-judgmental environment and great music.
